A Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Effects of a Supplement on Men’s Vitality and Wellness
Abstract
This single-group clinical trial evaluated the effects of the Primal Viking testosterone supplement on men's vitality and wellness over 12 weeks. Thirty-five male participants aged 30–55 took two capsules daily; one capsule in the morning and one in the evening, with the first and last meals of the day. Participants completed questionnaires at Baseline, Week 4, Week 8, and Week 12. By Week 12, all 10 evaluated vitality, overall wellness, and brain fog parameters showed significant improvement. Participant perception data revealed strong satisfaction, with 8 of 13 product-related statements receiving ≥50% agreement by Week 12, including improvements in energy levels, sex drive, sleep, and brain fog. These results suggest that the Primal Viking testosterone supplement effectively enhances multiple aspects of men's overall wellness and vitality, including energy levels, sex drive, motivation, brain fog, stress management, and sleep. Further large-scale, controlled studies are recommended to validate and expand on these outcomes.
1. Introduction
Men's vitality and overall wellness often diminish with age, primarily due to declining testosterone levels, a condition known as late-onset hypogonadism or "low T"1. Testosterone is a key hormone that regulates sexual function, muscle mass, energy levels, mood, cognitive performance, and bone density2. Symptoms of low testosterone can include reduced libido, fatigue, decreased muscle mass, increased body fat, and mood disturbances3. As men age, testosterone levels naturally decrease, but for some, the drop is more pronounced, leading to significant impacts on quality of life and long-term health. Addressing this hormonal decline is important for maintaining men's vitality, sexual health, and metabolic well-being.
Organ meats are nutrient-dense, providing essential vitamins (such as B12), minerals (iron, zinc), and cofactors involved in hormone synthesis4. Organ meat intake has been associated with higher total sperm count, higher sperm concentration, and greater sperm motility5. Deer heart peptides have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, supporting cardiovascular health and potentially enhancing overall well-being6.
Beef testicles are rich in proteins, minerals, and bioactive compounds that may support testicular health and hormone production indirectly7. They are also traditionally used in various cultures for male vitality and reproductive health.
Rhodiola rosea is an adaptogenic herb that has been traditionally used to combat fatigue and enhance physical and mental performance. Recent studies suggest Rhodiola may help regulate hormone production, including testosterone, due to its adaptogenic effects on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis8. Rhodiola is generally considered safe and may contribute to improved energy, mood, and hormonal balance9.
Sea buckthorn is rich in antioxidants, vitamins (notably vitamin C and E), and omega fatty acids. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may support overall endocrine and reproductive health by reducing oxidative stress, a factor known to impair testosterone production10.
Stinging nettle is widely used in men's health supplements for its potential to support healthy testosterone levels. Nettle root does not directly increase testosterone production but inhibits aromatase (the enzyme converting testosterone to estrogen) and binds to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), thereby increasing the proportion of free testosterone11,12.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Primal Viking's testosterone supplement on men's vitality and wellness over 12 weeks.
2. Methods
2.1 Participants
A total of 35 male participants aged 30–55 were recruited for this study. All participants reported concerns with brain fog, low energy, poor sleep, low libido, low confidence, and feeling stressed, and satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria outlined in the study protocol.
2.2 Study Design and Intervention Procedure
This was a virtual single-group clinical trial that lasted for 12 weeks. Consent forms describing the study process, instructions, evaluation methods, and bill of rights were provided to participants before study onboarding. Following the consent process, participants completed the Baseline questionnaire. Participants were asked to take two capsules of the test product daily; one capsule in the morning and one in the evening, with the first and last meals of the day. Further questionnaires were completed at the end of Week 4, Week 8, and Week 12.
2.3 Data Analysis and Statistics
Data from the questionnaires were collected using a textual 5-point Likert scale for each question. The textual Likert data was transformed into numerical values of 1–5. For nine questions, 1 represented the worst outcome, and 5 represented the best outcome. For one question, 1 represented the best outcome, and 5 represented the worst outcome.
Data were checked for normality using the Pearson test, depending on the number of values being analyzed. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA test with Dunnett's multiple comparisons test. Statistical analyses were performed in GraphPad Prism 10.6, and the significance level was set at 0.05.
For product-specific questions not evaluated at Baseline, results were presented as the percentage of subjects reporting each answer.
Included in the questionnaires was a quality check question to assess participant engagement. Participants who did not answer "Agree" or "Strongly Agree" to the question were excluded from all questionnaire analyses at that time point. One participant was excluded from the Week 4 questionnaire analyses, one participant was excluded from the Week 8 questionnaire analyses, and one participant was excluded from the Week 12 questionnaire analyses.
3. Results
3.1 Impact on Vitality, Overall Wellness, and Brain Fog
The effect of the Primal Viking testosterone supplement on 10 vitality, overall wellness, and brain fog parameters was evaluated at Baseline, Week 4, Week 8, and Week 12.
By Week 4, all 10 parameters were significantly improved from the Baseline, including increased energy levels, drive/motivation, sex drive, sleep pattern regularity, ability to gain muscle through exercise, skin and hair quality, overall confidence, ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations, and stress management, and a decrease in the frequency of brain fog/difficulty concentrating (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1). The most notable improvement was a 45.41% increase in the sex drive score (Table 1, Figure 1).
By Week 8, all 10 parameters continued to improve significantly from Baseline (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1). The most notable improvements included a 56.33% increase in the sex drive score, a 50.43% increase in the drive/motivation score, and a 48.64% increase in the stress management skills score (Table 1, Figure 1).
By Week 12, all 10 parameters improved significantly from Baseline (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1). Notable improvements included a 55.02% increase in the sex drive score, a 52.68% increase in the sleep pattern regularity score, a 52.14% increase in the overall confidence score, and a 36.76% decrease in the brain fog/difficulty concentrating score (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1).
3.2 Participants' Perception of the Test Product
Participants were asked to respond to questions at the end of Week 4, Week 8, and Week 12, which provided insight into their perceptions of the test product. They responded to product evaluation questions with a "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree" scale. The "strongly agree" and "agree" responses were combined into a single "combined agree" result to evaluate the overall participant perception.
In Week 4, 3 of the 11 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement (Table 3). These included 'since I started taking this product, my energy levels have increased' (54.55%), 'since I started taking this product, my ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations has improved' (57.58%), and 'since I started taking this product, my ability to handle stress has improved' (51.52%) (Table 3).
In Week 6, 7 of the 11 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement, including 'since I started taking this product, my drive (motivation) has increased' (57.58%), 'since I started taking this product, my brain fog has lifted' (54.55%), 'since I started taking this product, my sex drive has improved' (60.61%), and 'since I started taking this product, my skin and hair quality have improved' (54.55%) (Table 3). All other parameters from Week 4 were maintained.
In Week 8, 8 of the 13 parameters showed ≥50% participant agreement (Table 3). These included 'since I started taking this product, my energy levels have increased' (63.64%), 'since I started taking this product, my drive (motivation) has increased' (54.55%), 'since I started taking this product, my brain fog has lifted' (54.55%), 'since I started taking this product, my sex drive has improved' (60.61%), 'since I started taking this product, my sleep has improved' (57.58%), 'since I started taking this product, my ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations has improved' (57.58%), 'I would like to continue using this product' (81.82%), and 'I would recommend this product to my family and friends' (75.76%) (Table 3).
Additionally, at Week 12, one participant reported gas upon initial use of the test product, and another participant reported experiencing mild mood swings. Both participants indicated that these unexpected events may have been attributable to factors other than the test product.
